What Can I Do to Help?

Join local organizations and other North Carolinians in committing to clean air actions! By acting on even one of the suggestions below you can help reduce pollutants your community is exposed to and increase air quality awareness.

  • Avoid unnecessary idling of your vehicle
  • Carpool when/where possible
  • Properly inflate tires to ensure mile per gallon maximization
  • Use mass transit
  • Bicycle or walk
  • Know the Air Quality Index Color Code
  • Sign up for Air Quality Alerts
  • Inform friends, family, and co-workers when air quality rises to unhealthy levels
  • Postpone gas-powered lawn maintenance to non-Ozone Action Days
  • Avoid burning of vegetation when possible
  • Never burn any kind of man-made material
  • Conserve electricity
  • Engage with local policy leaders to advocate for clean air policies
