A Greener World and You!

Interactive activities and demonstrations will engage students on topics related to the environment, air pollution, and what each of us can do to help! Teachers will be provided with additional materials and related extension activities.


NC Essential Standards that may be addressed include: 1.L.1, 2.E.1, 3.P.2.1, 4.L.1, 5.L.1, 5.L.2.

Grades 6-12 Outreach Programs

Pollution, Health, and the Environment

Learn about the impacts of pollution on human health and the environment. Discussion will be supplemented by interactive demonstrations and activities.
NC Essential Standards that may be addressed include: 6.E.2.4, 7.E.1, 7.P.1, 7.P.2, 8.P.1, 8.P.2, Bio.2.1; Bio.2.2, EEn.2.5, EEn.2.6, EEn.2.8 Bio.2.1; Bio.2.2, EEn.2.5, EEn.2.6, and EEn.2.8.

Government & Air Quality

Our Air Awareness Coordinator will visit your classroom to discuss local, state, and federal government roles in monitoring and enforcing air quality standards. Topics will include why air quality matters, past air quality legislation, and what actions we as citizens can take to improve their environment.

Air Pollution & Renewable Energy

Learn about the challenges that current emissions pose to air quality and health, what you can do about it right now, and then make the ultimate emissions-free car by building and testing a miniature solar powered vehicle.

The Chemistry of Air Pollution

Our Air Awareness Coordinator will visit your classroom to discuss the role chemistry plays in air pollution with real-world examples and in-class interactive demonstrations

Idle Free NC Program

Our Air Awareness Coordinator will visit your classroom to discuss air pollution and vehicle emissions, and provide your class with signage to put up at your school to discourage vehicles on campus from idling and to encourage air awareness! Following the installation of signage, classes and schools will be recognized on Forsyth County’s social media for their efforts. NC Essential Standards that may be addressed include: CE.C&G.3.2, 7.G.1.1, 6.E.2.4, 7.E.1, 7.P.1, 7.P.2, 8.P.1, 8.P.2, Bio.2.1; Bio.2.2, EEn.2.5, EEn.2.6, and EEn.2.8
